! Proud Wife Alert !

Please bare with me while I boast a bit about my wonderfully intelligent and talented husband…

Last week, Ernie returned from a work conference in Dallas, and while there he had the opportunity to enter into a "Hack-A-Thon" contest. (nerd alert!)

So naturally, he along with his his buddy David from work entered into the contest, and only two days to complete a project. They decided on making an internet controlled cat door they named "Don't Not Enter" (that was all Ernie, I'm sure). It works by the cat touching the capacitive sensor on the door to "knock", which sends a message to its owner who can then use their smartphone app to unlock/lock the door and let their pet in if they want to.

I thought it was SUPER creative and apparently so did the judges, because Ernie and David ended up winning the GRAND PRIZE! Ernie said the judges were unanimous on them being the winners because they felt that their project was something that could actually be in the market the next day! So cool!

Below is the video of Ernie explaining their project -- Skip to 3:14 to get directly to his short interview...

Thanks for letting me boast! I'm SO proud!

EXECUTE : Follow up!

So last month I mentioned that I decided to focus on a word for the new year, rather than a resolution.

Guess what?! It's working so far!  2014 is rocking my world right now!

Here's a few things I've EXECUTED in the last month and a half:

                          * Started going to a boxing class twice a week

                          *  I've tried new recipes I've never made before, including this one:
                               http://tastykitchen.com/blog/2013/08/cauliflower-crust-pizza

                          * I've started going to a Rhythm & Motion dance class once a week (SO much fun!!)

                          * I applied and interviewed for some new jobs

                          * I GOT a new job! (more on that later)

                          * I successfully planned and executed a surprise getaway for Ernie and I last weekend!
(I should write and share photos about this. It was AMAZING!)

                          * I've become addicted to carbonated water (ok, this one's weird, but it's true)

2014 I'm into you! Let's keep this up!

He's flying home!

You guys, tonight my husband boards a plane to fly home and will be with me by tomorrow morning!

So naturally, I've been rocking out to Tammy Wynette's "Tonight My Baby's Coming Home".

I like to pretend that Ernie's time at Apple somehow made me better at dealing with him being away, but the truth is, it really didn't. I still miss him everyday when he's gone.

He's my best friend, and life is just so much more fun when he's around!!

recipe files : elote

Last night I decided to make a recipe from this book we purchased on our last trip,
"the world's best Street Food where to find it & how to make it"

You guys, I won MAJOR points with both my stomach and my husband! The best part is that this recipe couldn't get any easier!!

I've provided details below if you want try it out, which I highly recommend that you do!

What you'll need:

4 corn cobs, shucked
2 tsp fresh lime juice
3 tbs mayonnaise
2 tbs finely grated parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp ground red pepper
1/4 tsp ground cumin
pinch salt

Begin by broiling or barbecuing your corn until they're toasty and tender (approx. 10-15 mins), making sure they toast on all sides. Meanwhile, combine the lime juice and mayonnaise in one bowl and all the other ingredients in another. When your corn is ready, spread the lime mayo mixture on it and then douse with the spicy cheese mix. Then devour immediately!!
